Ritu Sambandh - How To Live Each Season At Its Best

Ritu Sambandh - How To Live Each Season At Its Best

It has been researched & proven that celestial movements affect our day-to-day lives in ways we can't imagine. As seasons change, so do our moods, our energies, our taste & everything else in our lifestyles.

It isn't difficult to deduce, we change as seasons change & we have a direct connection to seasons, we have ritu sambandh in each of us. Even though it is common sense that all lifestyle diseases like diabetes, heart conditions, hypertension, etc are caused by our day-to-day routines, we often miss out on simple lifestyle tricks that can help us avoid being around such scary names.

Let's dig a little deeper & understand how many seasonal changes are there & how frequently it affects our habits. Thanks to our forefathers, the ancient science of life, Ayurveda has laid out something called 'ritucharya'. ritu means seasons & charya means regimen, roughly translating to a disciplined lifestyle according to the seasons.

The best part about these guidelines is their holistic approach, from diet to exercise, from physical to mental well-being, from disease treatments to detoxifying the body & so on. On a lighter note, imagine not sticking to a routine of food choices, as seasons change, you change your recipes & viola! say bye-bye to boring food.

The year is divided into 6 seasons in our country & they are…

  1. Vasant Ritu (Spring): Heralds at the end of winter and the beginning of spring, Vasant Ritu breathes life back into the world. The climate gradually warms, and nature responds with an explosion of color and life.

Melodious songs of birds fill the air and nature responds with an explosion of color and life, the earth seems to awaken from a deep sleep.

It's a time of growth and renewal, making it an ideal season for new projects and beginnings.

Recommended Clothing- Bright coloured dresses & jumpsuits
  2. Grishma Ritu (Summer): Summer brings warmth and brightness, as the sun takes center stage. Grishma Ritu is characterized by long, hot days and short, warm nights.
People seek the comfort of shady trees and cool waters. The intense heat can be challenging, but it also brings the joy of ripe mangoes, ice-cold drinks, and vibrant evening skies.

Recommended Clothing- Soothing relaxed fit shirts, tunics & cotton bottoms
  3. Varsha Ritu (Monsoon): Where the skies open up to quench the thirst of the earth, monsoon or Varsha Ritu, is marked by regular rainfall due to the southwest monsoon.
The rains provide much-needed relief from the summer heat. The scent of wet soil, the sound of raindrops on rooftops, and the sight of lush fields and forests create an atmosphere of calm and tranquillity. Bright & weather-friendly clothes add sparkles to the otherwise sometimes gloomy days because of constant cloud shades.
It's a time of celebration for farmers and a season that inspires poets and artists alike.

Recommended Clothing- Vibrant Suit sets, kaftan & dresses.
  4. Sharad Ritu (Autumn): the world is painted in shades of gold and auburn as Autumn signals the arrival of harvest. During Sharad Ritu, the intense monsoon rains ease, and the landscape is green and fertile.

The sky is a clear blue canvas, adorned by the soft glow of the moon, while festivals and gatherings bring warmth to the cooling days, making it a pleasant season for outdoor activities and gatherings.

  5. Hemant Ritu (Pre-winter): With the whisper of the cold to come, Hemant Ritu signals the transition from autumn to winter.

The weather turns mild, and there's a certain freshness in the air that invigorates the senses.
People start to bundle up in cozy clothing, trees shed their leaves, and the harvested fields lie bare ready for the next sowing season and everybody looks forward to the delights of the approaching winter.

  6. Shishir Ritu (Winter): With chilly temperatures, especially in northern India, Shishir or Winter brings a hush as nature seems to retreat under a blanket of fog.
Nights become long and silent, marked by the brilliance of the stars and the crisp winter air. It's a time for warm fires, comfort food, and the simple joy of cosying up with a good book or a loved one.
